Past vs. present & future

Dear Mat,

Given what you know about the past, how would you think about the present and future? Memories become lighter with the passage of time. We tend to worry about the present and the future. Is this concern warranted, or is it merely a futile exercise?

Most things tend to work out fine, regardless of our initial concerns. Your current situation is likely manageable, as you've adapted to it over time. Humans possess an innate ability to adjust to new circumstances—a trait that varies in intensity based on individual personality and mindset. This adaptability is ever-present, allowing us to "mold our metaphorical shape" to fit new situations.

Life often unfolds gradually, in a linear fashion. The habits you cultivate over time become deeply ingrained, shaping your identity and daily routines. These habits, in turn, mold your body, mind, and overall conscious experience.

Sometimes you may lose sight of the habits and mindsets you've cultivated. You might find yourself doing things you don't truly believe in, with people you don't fully trust, simply because these patterns have slowly become your default way of life over time.

Then, suddenly, everything changes. You may not notice the gradual shifts within and around you until they become glaringly obvious. At this point, you might feel restless and uneasy about your current situation. You may be comparing it to someone else’s appearing life experience packed with fulfillment, joy, money, and freedom. Yet you may not know that person like you are familiar with yourself and what it feels like to be you.

Change is only possible for those who truly desire it. When a significant gap exists between your expectations and your current reality, you may begin taking steps toward change. This process requires a shift in mindsets and behaviors. Fundamentally, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to—if you're willing to bear the consequences and embrace the necessary changes that bring about that achievement.

You'll be fundamentally fine, regardless. Reflect on your past concerns and how things actually turned out. The main barrier to your blissful state is the mental clutter you've accumulated. By seeing through this, you can develop a higher-level, timeless perspective on your state of being.
